Clay is the only way to clean tiny particles out of the surface of your vehicle to prepare it for a perfect coat of wax. 3M Perfect-It III Cleaner Clay is designed to remove overspray, industrial fallout, rail dust, and anything else from your vehicle to promote healthy, clean paint.
3M Perfect-It III Cleaner Clay is a soft clay compound that pulls contaminants out of paint, glass, and chrome as it glides over the surface. Clay is a necessity for clear coat paint finishes because this thin coat is the only thing protecting the paint from oxidation. If a tiny piece of metal becomes lodged in the clear coat, it will eventually rust. That rust will spread underneath the clear coat. Enough of these tiny rust spots will ruin your paint finish! 3M Perfect-It III Cleaner Clay pulls tiny metal shavings and other particles out of the paint to prevent oxidation from even starting.
Clay works by gliding on top of the surface. Anything that protrudes from the surface, no matter how small, will be grabbed by the clay. Clay contains no chemicals or solvents. It cleans paint, glass, and chrome by simply pulling contaminants out of the surface. The lack of chemicals make clay safe to use and extremely gentle on all automotive surfaces.
3M Perfect-It III Cleaner Clay can be used with any water-based lubricant. The lubricant wets the surface to be treated so that removed contaminants will not scratch the paint as you rub the bar back and forth. A quality clay lubricant is essential to safely use clay. Wolfgang Clay Lubricant or Detailer's Pro Series Universal Clay Lubricant are both water-based lubricants that can be used with any clay.
To use 3M Perfect-It III Cleaner Clay, work on a clean vehicle in a shady area. Spray a 2 ft square area with lubricant and rub the bar lightly back and forth. It will grab at first, but keep rubbing. Keep the surface wet. When the bar glides freely, the surface is clean. Wipe away any residue with a microfiber towel and move on to the next section. Store your clay bar by wetting it with lubricant and sealing it in a plastic bag in its original jar.
