|“The Bone” by Cobra|
Thanks to the ergonomic design, this pad handles like a dream.
While there are dozens of wash tools on the market, an old-fashioned sponge is still one of the best ways to safely clean your vehicle. Before you pick up any old sponge at your local super store, take a look at this updated version of the standard wash pad. Aptly named “The Bone,” this thick foam pad is covered in willowy soft microfiber for an incredibly gentle touch.
The microfiber makes all the difference. The microfiber material covering this pad is open-ended instead of looped. The fibers are like millions of fingers that gently whisk away contaminants on the surface of your vehicle. The pile is deeper than on an average microfiber towel to allow plenty of room for loosened particles to move away from the paint surface. Because the fibers are open-ended, grit is less likely to become caught in the material and redeposit on your vehicle.
Typically, inexpensive sponges are made of dense, closed cell polyurethane foam. While they are absorbent, the tiny holes catch contaminants and hold onto them. Even after rinsing these sponges, much of the dirt remains in the foam and returns to the paint surface. Because The Bone features open-ended microfiber, dirt rinses out of the sponge and does not wind up back on the paint surface.
The foam pad underneath the fluffy exterior is incredibly absorbent. The Bone measures 9” x 5” x 3” and is ergonomically shaped for easy handling. The Bone holds a tremendous amount of water to keep your vehicle well-lubricated as you wash.
Because The Bone is made of synthetic materials, it has a longer life span than cotton or cotton chenille. When you’re finished washing your vehicle, simply rinse the pad and allow it to air dry.
Note: To minimize the risk of swirl marks, use the two-bucket method. Fill one bucket with soapy water and fill the second bucket with clean water. When you need to reload your pad, rinse it first in the clean water and then dip it in the soapy water. This technique will minimize the amount of grit that is re-deposited on your vehicle.
Another way to safeguard your vehicle against swirl marks is to use a high quality shampoo such as Detailer's Pro Series Auto Bath Shampoo. It will create long-lasting foam that acts as a slippery shield between grit and the paint surface. Dirt will slide off in the rinse water without leaving swirls.
