Keep oxidation at bay with this marine wax!
Fiberglass boats are often said to be “maintenance-free” by salesmen or brochures, but don’t take that literally. Think of a boat as a car that floats. Inside and out, it needs just as much care to keep it in tip top condition. It would be more appropriate to say, “With regular light maintenance, you can avoid major maintenance in the future”.
All sorts of algae and barnacles can grow on the hull of your boat if given half a chance. They’re unattractive and they increase the friction between the boat and the water. If contaminants are allowed to remain on the hull, they can penetrate the protective gel coat and cause oxidation. Eventually, the hull will require refinishing. The easiest way to prevent oxidation and save yourself a lot of money is to regularly apply a coat of Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze #56 Boat/RV Pure Wax to all the fiberglass surfaces.
Marine wax protects the gel coat much like car wax protects the clear coat of your vehicle. Meguiar’s #56 Boat/RV Pure Wax creates a slick, shiny surface that resists UV rays, salt, algae growth, and reduces friction as the boat cuts the water. The wax prevents oxidation so that colors remain crisp and the boat appears cleaner longer. However, there is a difference between gel coats and clear coats, so be sure to use a wax designed specifically for fiberglass.
Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze #56 Boat/RV Pure Wax contains pure Brazilian carnauba wax, silicones, polymers, and resins to provide a bright gloss and long-lasting protection. Resins allow the wax to bond to the gel coat in order to withstand the friction of the boat cutting the water and salt. The carnauba creates a beautiful shine and slickness that allows the boat to glide through the water with less resistance.
Your boat will usually require polishing prior to applying wax in order to remove any algae or salt that is already on the surface. You don’t want to trap contaminants under the wax. Use Meguiar’s #45 Marine/RV Polish to achieve a perfectly clean surface before waxing. Then apply #56 Boat/RV Pure Wax either by hand or with a polisher. To apply by machine, use a gray finishing pad. Work at a speed between 3000-4000 OPM on a dual action polisher, or 1000-1200 RPM on an orbital polisher. Apply wax to one section at a time. When it dries to a haze, buff it off using a microfiber towel.
While polishing, use DP Polishing Pad Rejuvenator to clean up your used pads and microfiber towels. Mix a scoopful of the citrus cleaner with 3-4 gallons of water. As you polish, toss your used pads into the mixture and allow them to soak. DP Polishing Pad Rejuvenator will restore the texture and prolong the life of your detailing tools!
Use Meguiar’s #56 Boat/RV Pure Wax to protect your RV, too! On gel-coated fiberglass RVs, #56 will give you superior protection over a car wax.
Remember, a little maintenance now will save you a lot of repair in the future! Use Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze #56 Boat/RV Pure Wax to protect and enhance your boat or RV for a long, functional life.
