  Altec began as a manufacturer of headlight lens covers for the Datsun 240Z race car back in 1974. From there, the small company developed a whole line of Datsun accessories that proved pretty popular. Not wanting to put all their eggs in one basket, the two owners of Altec branched out and started making license plate frames.
In the early 1980’s, Altec designed a breakthrough license plate frame called the Autocross Lens Frame, which seals the license plate completely. This ended the need for special cleaning supplies to remove road debris and dirt. This frame placed Altec in the top of its class for all weather plate protection.
Other models soon followed, including the Ital and the Turismo, homage to Italian design while backed by American quality.
