Wool pads were the original polishing pads and they’re still the choice of many professional detailers to correct paint with rotary polishers. Lake Country’s 8.5 inch Hook & Loop DuroWool 100% Wool Pads are made with a unique, heat-resistant polymer backing that creates a safer polishing experience.
Wool pads traditionally transfer more heat from the polisher to the paint than foam pads. Too much heat can instantly burn the paint. To lessen the risk, Lake Country’s DuroWool pads have a special thermoplastic polymer backing that adds tremendous strength to the pad even when exposed to high temperatures. This material, called SURLYN, allows the wool pads to last twice as long as conventionally backed pads. Lake Country promises that their 8.5 inch DuroWool Pads will outlast any wool pads you’ve used before.
Please note, wool pads are recommended for professional use because of a greater risk of heat build-up. Use caution when using a circular polisher with any pad and keep the pad moving at all times.

8.5 inch Hook & Loop Twisted Wool Cutting Pad
Lake Country’s Wool Cutting Pad is made of 100% wool twisted into hundreds of individual strands. The tight twisting allows the pad to operate at a consistent level of aggressiveness for longer periods. With a 1.5 inch pile, the pad will hold up to many, many uses. The pad has a diameter of 8.5 inches but the thick pile gives it an overall diameter of 10 inches. You’ll be able to cover a lot of paint in a little time with this large wool pad. The Wool Cutting Pad is intended for severe swirls, scratches and heavy oxidation. Because this is a more aggressive pad, you’ll want a compound to get the best results. Optimum Compound and Meguiars #4 Heavy Cut Cleaner are examples of paint compounds.
8.5 inch Hook & Loop Knitted Wool Polishing Pad
Lake Country’s Wool Polishing Pad is made of 100% knitted wool that is both fluffy and dense. The knitting creates a plush, uniform surface that polishes the paint to a bright shine. The density of the knitted wool provides an ample cushion between the backing plate and the paint surface. The Knitted Wool Polishing Pad is intended to polish the paint and remove minor swirls and oxidation. Use a polish or a mild swirl remover for the best results. XMT Fine Swirl Remover #2 or Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover will both work well on minor or moderate paint flaws.
Follow up with a foam polishing pad to refine the paint after using a wool pad.
If you’re wool pad becomes caked during use, use a steel brush to fluff up the pile. Turn the polisher off and lay it on the ground with the pad facing up. Turn the polisher on at its lowest setting and hold the brush against the wool as the pad spins. The pad will fluff in a few seconds.
To clean wool pads as you use them, mix a scoop of DP Polishing Pad Rejuvenator with 3-4 gallons of water. Toss the used pads into the bucket and let them soak for up to 15 minutes. Spin them dry on your circular polisher.
