Filter Rejuvenating Tablets – The water softener cartridge can be recharged and reused by replacing the minerals that have accumulated in the used cartridge. Pour the tablets into a plastic dishpan or bucket. Use enough to cover the bottom of the bucket and then cover the tablets with water. Soak the water softener cartridge overnight. The tablets work by replacing the calcium and magnesium ions with sodium. After 12 hours of soaking, the cartridge will be just like new.
The longevity of one water softener cartridge depends on the hardness of the water. Keep extra softener tablets on hand and an additional softener cartridge. This way, you can have one cartridge recharging while you use the other (it won’t hurt the cartridge to leave it soaking indefinitely). By rotating two water softener cartridges, you’ll have an endless supply of clean, softened water.
