Optimum Compound II is an amazing multi purpose product – an aggressive compound that behaves and performs like a polish! While compounds normally have a reputation of being abrasive, and leaving behind hazy swirled paint, Optimum Compound II contains proprietary polymers that encapsulate the microfine compounding agents. This process allows the compound to be gentle, yet abrasive – leaving behind no haze or dust while correcting damaged paint. What Optimum Compound does leave behind is a smooth finish that shines like its just been waxed!
Optimum Compound II is saturated with lubricating agents that grant users an ample amount of working time to prevent dry buffing. This product can be used with any type of foam pad, and with all types of buffing machine as a light or heavy compound, depending on the roughness of the pad and speed of the buffer. Because Optimum Compound II contains no silicone, waxes or oils, you can be certain that it is completely body shop safe.
Applying Optimum Compound II is simple with the Porter Cable 7424XP dual action polisher. The dual motion of the head will massage away most swirls and scratches without the risk of cookie-cutting or burning. If you want to tackle more prominent flaws, like oxidation and severe swirls, use a circular polisher, like the Makita 9227C. While still easy to use, the single rotating motion of the head has more power behind it to remove more imperfections.
Manufacturer’s directions: When using a wool buffing pad, the compound will remove 1200 sand scratches and lighter at 1000-1400 RPM. Faster buffing speed is not needed with this product. When using a medium or heavy cut foam pad, the compound will remove 1500 sand scratches and lighter at 1000-1400 RPM. A final finishing foam pad is generally not recommended with a compound product. For light surface imperfections, use the Optimum Polish for the least aggressive method of blemish removal. Always use enough product to create a barrier between the buffing pad and the paint surface. Wipe off residue to ensure the removal of compounding agents before proceeding to the Optimum Polish.
